Well, WorshipCity tagged me with this one, so here goes.

1. One book that changed your life:

I’m reminded of a Jim Gaffigan line: “Did you ever read a book that changed your life? Me neither.”

Anyway, I can’t think of a book that actually changed my life, but Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis challenged me about a lot of things.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once:

The Chronicles of Narnia (all of them) – This is the understatement of the month, but C.S. Lewis was a freakin’ genius. There is so much depth packed into these “children’s stories” that they’re pretty much a crash course in theology. My personal favorites are The Magician’s Nephew and A Horse and His Boy.

Runners-up: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Gunslinger (my all-time favorite Stephen King book)

3. One book you’d want on a desert island:

I could do the Sunday School answer and go with The Bible, I guess. There’s certainly plenty of material there to occupy a lifetime of solitude.

4. One book that made you laugh:

Pretty much anything by Neil Gaiman – Stardust, Neverwhere, American Gods, Coraline

5. One book that made you cry:

The Road by Cormac McCarthy – Well, I almost cried at the end. This is an amazing book, about a father and son trying to survive in post-apocalypse America. It’s not sci-fi, it’s more about the relationship than the setting.

6. One book that you wish had been written

How to Make Money Without Actually Getting a Job and Working

Seriously.

7. One book that you wish had never been written:

Lullaby by Chuck Pahlaniuk – This one made me ill. Don’t read it. For real.

8. One book you’re currently reading

The Present Future by Reggie McNeal – This book is basically about how the modern church in America is failing. It has become a consumer product – so obsessed with having the best show and the coolest programs that it has forgotten the Great Commission. Good stuff.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:

Sex God by Rob Bell – Hey, it’s Rob Bell. ‘Nuff said.

10. Now tag five people:
